About this event

The Criminology Society is excited to invite you to a webinar entitled “Decoding Drill: Rap music, violence and criminalisation in 21st Century England” with Dr Jonathan Ilan from City University.

Dr Ilan is a senior lecturer in criminology interested in street culture; exclusion; ethnography; youth crime, justice and policing; street crime; youth culture; 'urban' music; urban sociology and cultural criminology. In his work, he explores urban ‘street’ cultures, traditional and late-modern working-class cultures, as well as mainstream cultures of control, governance and consumption. He is currently working on projects exploring the political significance of subcultural practice and the criminalisation of street leisure (in particular black music in London).

Registered attendees will be sent a Zoom webinar link on the day of the event.
